Visiting a Farmer's Market is a great way to find and purchase fresh locally grown products.

THINGS TO KNOW
Before you visit a Farmer's Market

1. To carry your purchases, bring a bag or basket

2. If you're not planning to go home straight away, bring a cooler - some markets have vendors that sell frozen pork, beef, lamb, etc.

3. Stop by the ATM - some vendors accept credit cards, but some don't

EATING

LOCAL

If you are considering eating local,

check out our simple Terminology

Guide, a must for any "localvore."

 Ag·ri·tour·ism-(noun)

  The practice of touring agricultural

areas to see farms, participate in

farm activities, and often to purchase

  farm-made goods.

 Com·mu·ni·ty Sup·port·ed

 Ag·ri·cul·ture-(noun)

Often referred to as a CSA,  a food

  production and distribution system that

  connects consumers to their local

  farmers.  The consumer buys "shares"

upfront and is then provided with

a scheduled (usually weekly) amount of

goods.  CSAs are most often done with

produce, but can also include eggs,

  milk, meat, or even flowers.

 Food·ie-(noun)

A person with an interest in food

  trends, food production, and eating

  quality food.

 Lo·cal·vore-(noun)

A person who eats food which is

produced within a certain radius of

their home, often purchased at local

  farm markets.

  Variations:  Locavore, Localtarian.

 Res·tau·rant Sup·port·ed

 Ag·ri·cul·ture-(noun)

Often referred to as an RSA, a food

  production and distribution system that

  connects consumers to local restaurant

  owners.  Chefs commit to purchasing

local food products, then design their

  menus around them.
